Simple Flowers – Blackwork SAL via Claire93

Recently I was indoctrinated into the world of blackwork.  Sounds spooky when you put it like that…… However I am very grateful for having Claire guide me in this stitchery. Claire was running a SAL (Stitch-a-long) over on her English & French blogs.  You can check her wonderful work on  http://claire93.wordpress.com

Naturally I thought I could get away with stitching it in 2 strands of thread, which unfortunately made Valerie Warners sweet and delicate pattern look all clumsy and clunky.  So back to the beginning and under Claire’s guidance and a single strand of thread I now have a lovely little coaster.  Which will be under glass.

Now I am hooked and as a result started looking for other patterns in blackwork. Seeing as I had never made a book mark before, the one below was the product of my spare time.   It was a free pattern located on http://dunmanidesigns.co.uk/

I did this one in 2 strands as I wanted it to be bolder.  So January has been a stitchery month.  Now onto Claire’s next SAL – the Aida is cut and ready to commence in February……

  1. I love your blackwork coaster and bookmark. I also took part in Claire’s SAL. She’s got me hooked too 😀 It is lovely to have a small project on the go for a change. They will be great for those long light summer evenings (eventually). Have a lovely weekend! Avis x
